Customei ships as a Shopify theme app extension. Installing the app registers the extension with your theme; you just need to make sure the right block is enabled in your current theme and then test a product page.

1. Confirm the app embed is on

Customei installs an app embed that runs on every product page. It’s enabled by default when you install the app — verify it’s still on:
1

Open your theme customizer

In Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes → Customize on your current theme.
2

Switch to App embeds

In the left sidebar, click the App embeds icon (a jigsaw piece).
3

Make sure Customei is toggled on

You should see POD Auto-Loader (the embed that powers Customei). Make sure its toggle is on. Click Save.
The app embed runs on every product page. If a product has no template or option set assigned, Customei does nothing. You don’t have to worry about the embed “leaking” onto products that shouldn’t show it.

2. (Optional) Place the block where you want it

By default, Customei auto-injects the personalization form above the Add to cart button. Most merchants are happy with that and can skip this section. If you want more control over where the form appears — for example, inside a tab, or below the description — you can place the Customei block manually:
1

Open a product template in the customizer

Online Store → Themes → Customize → top dropdown → Products → Default product.
2

Add the Customei block

Click Add block inside the product section. Pick the Customei block.
3

Position it

Drag the block to wherever you want the personalization form to appear.
4

Save

Click Save in the top right.
Customei detects that you’ve placed the block explicitly and stops auto-injecting. The form renders wherever you put it.

3. Test on a real product page

1

Visit a personalizable product

In a fresh incognito window, open the storefront URL for the product you linked to a template and option set in the previous step.
2

Check the form loads

You should see the option set form — your text field and your swatch — right on the product page. The product image swaps to a live preview as you type.
3

Make a change

Type a new name in the text field. The preview updates. Pick a different color swatch. The preview updates again.
4

Add to cart

Click Add to cart. Go to the cart — you should see the product with the personalization summary (the name and color you chose) as line-item properties.
5

Place a test order

Check out using Shopify’s Bogus Gateway or any test payment method. Once the order is paid, Customei starts generating the print-ready file in the background.

4. View the order in Customei

From the Customei sidebar, open Orders. Your test order appears with:
  • The personalization payload (every field the customer changed).
  • A status indicator for the print file generation.
When the status is Ready, you can download the print file and hand it to your printer. See Orders and Print files for the full flow.

You’re live

That’s the full end-to-end flow. You’ve built a template, defined options, linked to a product, and verified a customer can personalize and check out. From here, most merchants follow these tracks: Hit a snag during this walkthrough? See Troubleshooting.
