Customei has four moving parts. Once you understand how they connect, everything else in these docs will click.

The four pieces

1

Design template

A canvas layout with layers — text, images, shapes, QR codes, clipart. It defines what can be seen on the final product.
2

Option set

The form your customer fills out. It defines what they can change — a text field, a color swatch, a photo upload, a dropdown.
3

Product link

A Shopify product is linked to one template and one option set. That pairing is what turns it into a personalizable product.
4

Storefront widget

A theme block that renders the option form and a live preview on the product page. Customers see their changes in real time, then add to cart.

The flow, from design to delivery

  1. You design a template in the editor.
  2. You build an option set that maps each input to a layer in the template — e.g. “Customer name” → the text layer, “Shirt color” → the background color.
  3. You link both to a Shopify product.
  4. When a customer opens that product on your storefront, Customei loads the template and option form, renders a live preview, and lets them personalize.
  5. On checkout, the personalization payload is attached to the line item. After the order is paid, Customei generates a print-ready file you can hand to your printer.

What’s different about Customei

  • Real canvas rendering, not CSS tricks. The editor and the storefront preview share the same rendering engine, so what you design is what your customer sees.
  • Option sets are reusable. Build one for “mugs with name + color”, reuse it across 200 SKUs.
  • Works with or without Shopify Plus. Price add-ons work via Cart Transform on Plus and via Fee Variants on every other plan — Customei picks automatically.
