If you sell to more than one country, the questions you ask can be shown in your customer’s own language. A German shopper reads Name eingeben where an English shopper reads Enter name. You translate the words your customers see: the label on each question, the name of each choice, and the little bits of help text around them.

What you need to set up

Three steps, in this order.
1

Add the languages you sell in

Tell Customei which languages to keep translations for. English is there from the start.See Add your languages.
2

Set your fixed phrases (optional but worth it)

Words that must always come out the same way: your brand name, a material, a size chart term. You write the translation once, and it stays consistent everywhere.See Words that must always translate the same.
3

Translate each option set

Open an option set and fill in the other languages, either by typing them or by letting Customei draft them for you.See Translate an option set.

Good to know before you start

You translate per option set

Each option set is translated on its own. Translating one doesn’t translate the others, so do the ones on your best sellers first.

English is the source

Your original wording is the source. Everything else is a translation of it, so fix a typo in the original and translate that row again.

Nothing changes for shoppers until you save

Translations only go live when you save them, so you can work through a long option set over several sittings.

Empty means fall back

A row you leave empty shows your original wording. A half-finished translation is safe to save.

What doesn’t get translated here

  • Your product titles and descriptions. Those live in Shopify and are translated there.
  • What your customer types. If a shopper types a name, that’s their words, and it goes to you exactly as they wrote it.
  • The words inside your artwork. Text you typed on the canvas is part of the design, not a question.
